# Solving absolute value inequalities
When solving absolute value inequalities: if the absolute value is greater than a number you must use the conjunction OR, when the absolute value is less than a number you must use the conjunction AND.
To remember this just remember two words **"GOR"-"LAND,"** which translate
into **"G(greater)OR"** and **"L(less than)AND"**. When I introduce this
topic I tell students that we are about to enter "GOR-LAND." (no
political implications intended)
